Sandbach United host St Martins FC in the NWCFL as they look to continue their winning form after beating Brocton FC 3-1.

The Ramblers currently sit second in the league table after the first round of fixtures, behind Birkenhead side Cammell Laird on goal difference.

It was a convincing win over the Stafford-based club, with goals coming from Callum Evans and a brace from young striker Bobbie McDonnell.

Manager Andy Hockenhull said after the match that he believes Sandbach can play better than what they showed during the match but was happy with the three points and a comfortable win.

It was a good day for new signing Amir Hajri too, as he made his debut for the club from the substitutes bench and marked it with an assist for McDonnell's first goal of the afternoon.

The pacey forward impressed as a trialist in pre-season and has hit the ground running in the league, so Sandbach fans will be hoping he can keep that form up against a St Martins side entering their fourth season of NWCFL football.

Sandbach United and St Martins managed to play each other both home and away during the curtailed 2020/21 season, with the Cheshire side coming out on top in both contests.

An entertaining 5-1 win at Hind Heath Road was capped by a Robbie Hatton first-half hattrick, and the Oswestry side won't be too pleased to hear that Hatton remains in good form for the club and assisted McDonnell's second in the Brocton game.

St Martins' home fixture against Sandbach resulted in a 3-2 away win, with goals coming from Scott Evans, Kieran Garner-Knapper and Bobbie McDonnell. McDonnell will hope to continue his good scoring form this season against a side he has scored against previously, whilst Evans has impressed fans with his performances over the last few games.

St Martins drew their opening fixture against Abbey Hulton at home, coming from two goals down in the last 11 minutes to salvage a point.

The Ramblers are firing on all cylinders at the moment, and it should prove a tough test for the visiting side, whilst Sandbach will feel confident after a good pre-season and a perfect track record against St Martins of 5 wins in 5 competitive games.

However, football is anything but predictable, so this is a contest not to be missed. The match kicks off Tuesday 3rd August at 7:45pm at Hind Heath Road.
