After being recommended for approval in the report submitted to the board last week, the Alderley Park development has been approved by Cheshire East County Council in its latest planning committee.

The development at Alderley Park which is situated in the Cheshire Science Corridor just north of Macclesfield will see two new buildings and further office space built. It will also hold lab space and ancillary retail space.

Dr Kath Mackay, director of life sciences at Bruntwood SciTech, said: "We're excited to embark on the next chapter at Alderley Park and support the continued growth of the life sciences sector in the UK.

"Today's outcome marks a huge milestone for the park and highlights our commitment to providing best-in-class life sciences facilities to support science and technology businesses across the nation."

The new development will be flexible in its usage, with the lab and office space suitable for a variety of life science and medical-related sectors, including technology, healthcare, medtech and diagnostics.

The development would also support 1,600 on-site jobs with 650 jobs during construction.

As reported earlier, the adjoining retirement complex had its planning permission rejected in the same committee meeting.
