One of the UK's best-known car dealership groups has picked up a prestigious accolade at the 2023 Car Dealer Magazine Used Car Awards – often described as the Oscars of the motor trade.

Swansway Motor Group, based in Stockport, was awarded the title of Used Car Dealership Group of the Year at this year's ceremony, held to celebrate the best and the brightest car retailers working in the used car market across the UK.

Thousands of automotive businesses, plus MOT testing stations and workshops, enter the awards each year – and each one undergoes a rigorous judging process and mystery shopping test before the gongs are handed out at a glittering ceremony in London.

In the hotly contested 'Dealership Group of the Year' category, assessors were not only looking for consistently high scores in online reviews, they also wanted to experience excellent customer service when visiting a dealership in person. Swansway delivered in fine style.

James Baggott, editor-in-chief of Car Dealer Magazine, said: ''Running a successful car dealership group is a tough job, with multiple plates to keep spinning.

''Our judges wanted to see dealer groups focused on used cars just as much as new, with high levels of customer service, easy-to-use websites and five-star online reviews. Swansway delivered all of the above! A family-run business, it has caring values that run throughout all its dealerships.''

Swansway Director Peter Smyth said: ''Of course, we're very pleased to win this award – delighted, in fact! I was more than happy to be on stage to receive the trophy, but we've won this because of the hard work of everyone in our business.
