Love is in the air in Sandbach where cupids flock for the ultimate Valentine's cake

By Deborah Bowyer 12th Feb 2022

You can't put a price on love … or so it would seem!

Love is certainly in the air in Sandbach where cupids have been dipping into their pockets to buy the ultimate gift – a £40 Valentine's cake.

Post-lockdown fever has sent romantics out to buy the traditional array of red roses, bottles of bubbly and heart-shaped balloons for the big day on Monday (February 14th).

And restaurants and cafes in the town are cooking up a storm with delicious menus and food to tempt the most discerning of couples out to celebrate the day.

Kan's Oriental Restaurant restaurant in Green Street has a Valentine banquet at £24 a head featuring, amongst other dishes, skewered chicken in satay sauce and an appetizer combination.

And Sally's café in Green Street, along with a host of other town venues, has a Valentine's afternoon tea for two for £30 to eat in or takeaway which includes chocolate hearts and millionaire's shortbread.

Love is certainly in the air at Sandbach Partry Supplies' in Welles Street where the window is hearts and a stunning Valentine display for what is their first year in the Welles Street shop.

Sandbach Party Supplies' Judy Henson said: "We decorated a local restaurant with balloons and people have been coming in buying last minute Valentine's things.

"I think today (Saturday) will be busy as people rush to get last-minute balloons and cards. It's different this year as it's on a Monday and a word day."

But it's Lois's Little Cake & Chocolate Company where the beautifully designed Valentine's cake has literally been "flying out the door".

For even at £40 a pop, it would seem the way to your cupid's heart is through their stomach.

The business has made between 15 and 20 of the scrumptious cakes which offer more than a slice for the whole family or friends who want a bit of cupid's glory.

Owner Debbie Fenton said:"We've patterned up with Flowers on the Cobbles so people have been coming in to buy the cake and matching it up with flowers.

"People are becoming a lot more confidence now we're out of lock down and restrictions have been lifted. It's almost back to normal for our customers and what they are buying.

"There's lots of parties and gatherings with orders for as far away as 2024. The Valentine's cake is something a bit different and people are loving it."
