Top rugby player, Ewan Ashman, delighted pupils at his former school when he spent the day sharing his sporting talent, talking about his life and opening the school's new top-of-the-range gym.

Ewan, who plays for Sale Sharks and has represented Scotland several times, is currently part of Scotland's 37 man squad ahead of their summer series and attended Sandbach School in his youth which has a long history of sport.

The talented sportsman did a Q & A session, talking about his life as a professional sportsman to sixth formers at the school and then another Q & A session with Year 7 pupils.

He also shared his talents on the pitch with young rugby players at the Crewe Road School and opened the school's new power based gym which will support the "Talented Athlete" programme in the Sixth Form.

Simon Robertson, Director of Sport & Physical Education at Sandbach School said: "We're grateful for Ewan coming to spend the day with us. It was a huge success and lovely to see him again and hear about his achievements and life.

"He was a very keen junior rugby player when he was here as well as a top track and field competitor, playing for the school and Sandbach Rubgy Club and has done so well. We are very, very proud of his achievements and wish him well for the future."

And Ewan has left plenty behind at his former school to help keen young rugby players follow in his footsteps.

The power based gym will teach students about sports psychology, lifestyle management and balancing work, rest and play with their sport and academic studies, ensuring they have a balanced lifestyle.
