Sandbach Leisure centre has issued a statement following its closure on Friday due to Storm Eunice.

It is urging local users to remain patient while the issue is resolved and asking them to use nearby leisure centres in the meantime.

One swimmer turned up for her early morning swim at the Middlewich Road leisure centre this morning at 6 am to find a notice explaining the situation.

The centre is on the site of Sandbach High School & Sixth Form College in Middlewich Road. The school is currently closed for half-term.

Dominic Crisp Head of Leisure Operations at Everybody Sport and Recreation said: "Sandbach Leisure Centre experienced damage to part of the roof on Friday evening as a result of the storms.

"The site has since remained closed to ensure the area is kept safe until the roof can assessed for the extent of the damage.

"With the continued high winds this is causing delays although we are hopeful for an update in the coming days.

"Thankfully no one was injured as a result of the falling debris and no further damage was caused to the facility or nearby cars on location at the time.

"We are actively working with Cheshire East to have the required repair works carried out in order to safely reopen the facility as soon as possible.

"All of our other Everybody Leisure Centres remain open and members can access these as part of their membership."

"You can find all of our locations here: here. with your most local being Alsager, Holmes Chapel and Crewe.

"We will of course keep customers updated via Sandbach Leisure Centres Facebook page and we thank you all for your cooperation during this time."
