A railway bridge in Sandbach looks set to be reinstalled next year - three years after it was removed

A railway bridge connecting the public footpath between Marsh Green Road and Elm Tree Lane removed by Network Rail due to it being unsafe looks set to be reinstalled.
Elworth district councillor, Nicola Cook, has campaigned for two years to get the bridge reinstalled so local residents can use it.
And now she's received told the work on the bridge, removed in 2024 after a 'structural assessment identified that it was no longer sale for public use will take place in April 2027.
The update from Network Rail says: "The project team is working collaboratively with Cadent to confirm that the new bridge position doesn't interfere with their asset.
"This confirmation is necessary to ensure that the bridge can be reinstated in a manner that minimises disruption to existing gas and railway infrastructure while maintaining the highest standards for safety for both the local community and the workforce involved in the construction.
"Due to the proximity of critical gas assets and operational railway infrastructure, careful consideration is required to identify a solution that is safe, practical and sustainable in the long term.
"This collaborative approach will help minimise future risks and avoid unnecessary disruption during construction and beyond."
Cllr Cook said: "I am of course mindful that there have been multiple delays to this project and I have asked Cheshire East Council to remain in close contact with Network Rail, to stress that we really do not want any further delays."
