A water station is set up after aqueduct leak left thousands of homes without water
Thousands of residents in Sandbach and the surrounding area were left without water yesterday (Monday) after a leak was detected in the Vyrnwy aqueduct supplying the area.
People dashed to buy bottles of water to get them through the night and many pubs closed due to them not having any water.
And a water station was set up by United Utilities which is still there today (Tuesday) on Scotch Common supplying packs of water to residents.
Today (Tuesday) residents woke up to find their water supply back on after spending the night without water.
One Elworth resident, who didn't want to be named, said: "It was a difficult night. We were just about to start cooking our tea and put water in a pan to boil vegetables when the supply went off.
"We decided to go to the pub instead to eat but found the door shut due to no water and went home hungry! Thankfully we managed to get some bottled water to use later.
"United Utilities have been brilliant and have kept us informed with text messages. We just feel for anyone with young children or local nursing homes."
A statement today (Tuesday)from water suppliers, United Utilities said: "The situation will be an improving one as we go through today and we will continue to do all we can, as soon as possible, to get supplies back to normal for anyone affected by this.
"While the pressures build back up across our water network, we have opened a bottled water station at Scotch Common car park in Sandbach where customers can collect supplies of bottled water.
"This is now open and will remain there today. We are also looking to open another collection point in the area and will keep people informed about that, when confirmed.
"Our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused and as the situation improves today then pressures will begin to return to normal."
The spokesperson added: "A leak was detected on the Vyrnwy aqueduct, which supplies the area. Repairs on the aqueduct are well underway.
"We are doing everything we can to get service back to normal."
