An action group has been set up after residents attended a meeting about plans stop maintaining green spaces in part of Sandbach.

A packed room of people attended a public meeting at St Peter's Church Hall in Elworth which saw residents agree to set up the Grange Way/Lawton Way Residents Action Group which has a Facebook page here

Cheshire East Council has opened a public consultation asking people to have their say on proposals for how green spaces are maintained as revealed here .

The policy proposes how and when each type of site will be maintained – such as how often grass is mowed, and shrubs and hedges are cut back – so that there is a consistent standard across the borough.

And it includes green spaces in the Grange Way/Lawton area of Elworth where residents have been up in arms about them not being mowed regularly and kept tidy.

Cheshire East say the proposal would deliver opportunities to allow areas to naturally develop into scrubland as a form of rewilding and to enhance areas of no-mow, supporting biodiversity and the council's pledge to make Cheshire East a carbon neutral borough by 2045.

Cheshire East Elworth councillor, Nicola Cook, who spoke at the meeting, said it was very concerning to hear the impact the proposal to stop maintenance on 36 plots of land would have.

"The most important thing now is to take part in the consultation and spread the word," she said.

"I will also regularly update residents on the actions which are being co-ordinated by the campaign group. Thanks to everyone who attended."

Resident, Stephen McDermott, said: "Our estate has been neglected and we urge as many people as possible to take part in the consultation."

Another resident, who did not want to be named, said: "It's awful what could happen. We all take pride in our estate and this isn't our fault."

The green spaces consultation runs until November 24th and can be found here
