Police are appealing for witnesses and video footage following a suspected arson at a block of flats in Sandbach.

At around 5.10am on Tuesday 30 January, emergency services responded to reports of a fire at William Barker Court, Welles Street, Sandbach.

On arrival they found a small fire in one of the flats, which was quickly extinguished by firefighters.

The cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate, and an investigation has been launched.

Detective Constable Ben Harrington, of CID Reactive East, said: "This investigation is in the early stages and we're doing everything that we can to establish what took place.

"The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning within the block of flats at William Barker Court, on Welles Street not far from the town centre.

"Therefore, we're urging anyone was in the area between 4.45am and 5.10am and thinks they may have seen anything suspicious, or anyone trying to access the building, to get in touch.

"The same goes for anyone with any dashcam or CCTV footage from around the time of the incident which may aid our investigation."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Cheshire police on 101 or via www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us quoting IML-1745532.

Alternatively, information can be given anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
