A Sandbach group set up to bring out the creative side of residents has launched an appeal for hundreds of hand-made poppies.

The 'Yarn and Yarn' group was set up by Sandbach Town Council set up in April and since forming, its members have made countless postbox toppers to celebrate various events.

Now they have launched their latest project - to decorate Sandbach Town Hall with a sea of red flowing knitted and crocheted poppies ahead of Remembrance Day in November.

And they need YOUR help to do it! The group needs people to make as many poppies as possible to put the town on the map and make the 30 ft or so display.

A spokesperson said: "In 2024 Sandbach will join the trend of displaying a sea of red flowing knitted and crochet poppies from the Town Hall.

"The Yarn and Yarn group who produce Post Box Toppers to celebrate events in the town are putting together a stream of poppies for Remembrance Day and need your assistance to make the thousands of individual poppies that are needed to cover part of the Town Hall.

"They can be knitted or crocheted and made of red wool with a black centre and once completed must be handed in to either to the Yarn and Yarn Group which meet on Mondays between 11 and 1pm, Town Hall office or Helen's Emporium on Congleton Road (wool shop) before the 21 October 2024.

"Patterns are available via the Royal British Legion website here and the Women's Institute website or from Helen's Emporium."

The river of red will be installed at the Town Hall on the 28 October 2024 ready for the 11 November commemorations.

There will also be a competition to correctly guess how many poppies have been put into the 30 foot or more display.
