A number of readers have contacted Sandbach Nub News about the unkempt state of the area in front of Cheshire East Council's Westfields offices in the town.

Readers say they are "dismayed" at the number of weeds poking through the pavement and the overgrown state of the fountain in front of the building.

One said she could not believe the state of the grounds around the building as she was driving past.

"I was shocked at the disgraceful state of the grounds around the building. Weeds, ivy infestation and the old fountain is a mess," said the reader who did not want to be named.

"I know Cheshire East plan to sell it off but surely they have a responsibility to maintain it for now? It sends such a poor message out about our town."

Cheshire East's corporate policy committee took the decision to close Westfields in November last year after saying with many staff working from home, no longer needs so much office space as we revealed here

A spokesperson for Cheshire East Council told Nub News: "The site is currently still open and used as council offices.

"Staff will be moving out over the coming months. There is no official closing date for the building as yet."

Sandbach reacted with sadness to the news that Cheshire East was leaving Westfields as we revealed here
