Bloor Homes has won an appeal to build up to 325 homes off The Hill in Sandbach.

The Planning Inspectorate has issued its decision on the Bloor planning application appeal which was submitted in mid-April.

It has found in favour of Bloor Homes. Cheshire East councillors had previously refused the outline application against officer recommendations.

The refusal was based on concerns that the development would harm the setting of designated heritage assets, including the Leonard Cheshire Home, Oakley House, and Oakley Coach House.

Campaigners are devastated at the news. Sarah Bradley from the Sandbach VS Overdevelopment team said: "It goes without saying that this is not the news we wanted to hear or have to communicate, we are all devastated.

"A huge amount of work has gone into fighting this from our voluntary team over the past 18 months, it was no mean feat defending this and took an enormous amount of our personal time and lives to put up a considered and well-constructed defence.

"We of course could have done none of this without residents and the local Sandbach Town Councils support.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your fantastic contributions, emails, letters and donations, we couldn't have defended the original decision to reject this application without you and for that we will always be very grateful.
