This weekend, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) have invited all to take part in their Big Garden Birdwatch.

Whether you are a keen bird watcher or not, now is your chance to get to know your local wildlife by spending an hour looking around your garden or out of your window to see what flies past. The birdwatch takes place from Friday (today) to Sunday (January 29-31).

Taking part is easy: simply pick the hour you'd like to spend bird watching, count the birds you see and then submit your results to the RSPB.

The Big Garden Birdwatch is a valuable way of collecting data about different UK bird species, helping the RSPB to understand the challenges faced by our wildlife.

This year, for the first time, the bird count will be joined by live events brought to you by experts from across the country. These will include Q & A sessions, live quizzes, photos and footage of the birdlife spotted throughout the weekend.

You can find out more on the RSPB website, which contains a wealth of tips and resources for the event.
