Pupils at a Sandbach primary school are set to join the IT revolution – if a massive fundraising project gets off the ground and is well supported.

The Elworth Hall School Association has set up a Just Giving crowdfunding site to raise £10,550 for new IT equipment to replace outdated computers at the Lawton Road school.

The group says IT is such an integral part of society and as adults we use it in every aspect and they want to ensure pupils have access the same technology as their peers.

And they are asking anyone – whether it be relatives, friends and colleagues of children attending the school - to step in and support the project.

EHSA say fundraising has been limited due to Covid so they have opted to set up the page which has already raised over £600.

A letter sent out by the group to parents and carers at the school this week says: "After learning that other local primary schools have a device for every single pupil, we knew we needed to bring Elworth Hall up to this same standard, to enable our pupils to have the same advantages and experiences, on a par with their peers.

"To be able to offer our pupils up to date and relevant technology the current equipment in place must be completely overhauled. While EHSA have recently funded the purchase of some laptops and iPads for school, this is not nearly enough.

"A helpful stop gap for an emergency situation but by no means a long term solution. The classroom is now a dynamic learning environment and there are many benefits to the use of current technology.

"While preparation for further study and establishing early skills that could eventually convert to the workplace may seem many years away at present, areas such as connecting our pupils to the wider world and encouraging collaborations are just as important.

"We must also remember that I.T. can offer support to different types of learners within the classroom. No two pupils are the same and with correct technology teachers and staff can use this to address diversity with learning styles and identify student needs. This is where we need your help.

"EHSA have been extremely limited with fundraising opportunities this year with the restrictions on holding our usual in person events. Although we have tried our best with several virtual offerings, we've had no Wormfest, no Christmas Fair, no discos, which normally keep EHSA going.

"As a result, our fundraising total is far reduced from that of a usual year. We are therefore appealing to parents, carers and our school community to consider supporting us directly with this project, to make a difference to the prospects of our pupils at Elworth Hall and offer them the same opportunities as other schools. We feel strongly that in an age of new digital learning that we help fund this for our school and we will work hard to achieve the target.
