Sailors who lost their lives in a ship "adopted" by Sandbach but which sadly sank during WWII have been remembered - 82 years to the day they died.
Ninety-three men lost their lives in the sinking of HMS Vimiera on January 9th, 1942.
Sandbach Nub News told here how a special memorial, which includes the ship's bell, was set up in the foyer of Sandbach Town Hall.
And yesterday (Tuesday) Lieutenant Antonio Valente from Navy Command came back to Sandbach to attend a service together with Sandbach Mayor, Councillor Laura Crane and other dignitaries.
Lt Valente said he was honoured to be back in Sandbach for the occasion. He revealed how there were 34 survivors but sadly 93 sailors had lost their lives.
"I'm honoured to be here to commemorate this occasion in honour of all those who lost their lives."
Members of the Sandbach branch of the Royal British Legion were also there to see Mayor Cllr Laura Crane acknowledge the town's wartime massive fundraising campaign which led to the adoption of HMS Vimiera.
