Chelsea boss, Roman Abramovich, eat your heart out with Sandbach's special bun

A Sandbach artisan coffee house has come up with an innovative way of raising money for the Ukraine appeal – a play on the name 'Chelsea'.

The House in Congleton Road has always made homemade Chelsea Buns for the weekend but it decided to do something different.

Customers had joked about Chelsea buns and their tenuous link to Chelsea Football Club's Russian owner, Roman Abramovich.

So the owners of The House, Blackwater & Grubb, decided to replace the normal white icing topping with yellow and blue icing – the colours of the Ukrainian flag.

The buns have been made by baker Alex Baguley who makes all the homemade pastries at the popular coffee house.

"I've been baking since a child. It's something I really love doing," said Alex. "My mum got me into it. A customer was joking about the name 'Chelsea' and Chelsea Buns.

"We thought we would do something which means all of the profits go to the Ukraine and not to Russia," joked Alex.

"Usually we have white drizzle on the top but we've changed this to blue and yellow and rebranded them."

When Alex isn't busy making the 'Ukrainian buns' he is busy making other delicious offerings such as brownies, tea cakes and lemon drizzle cake.

All the money raised from the buns will go directly to the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC).

And take it from Sandbach Nub News, the Ukrainian buns taste as delicious as they look and just melt in your mouth!
