A familiar face at a popular Sandbach shop is starting a new chapter in her life - after retiring following 27 years working in the same shop.

Linda Jones has worked at Burnell's card and gift shop in Congleton Road since 1998 but today (Tuesday), she served her last customer for the final time.

Now the fitness fan plans to spend more time at Sandbach Leisure Centre where she enjoyes swimming, pilates and body conditioning to keep in shape.

And just like the customers she has helped choose cards and decorations for birthdays and other occasions, Linda received plenty for herself as she worked her final day.

"I have loved working here and will miss the lovely sisters, Sarah and Kathy who own Burnell's and the customers but I'm looking forward to my retirement," said Linda.

"It's been wonderful working in a family business and getting to know our customers. It's like one big happy family which is renowned for its friendly service."
