Community-run pub in Sandbach notches up Winter pub of the year from CAMRA

One of Sandbach's best-kept secrets, a community pub tucked away in a side street near the station, is to be honoured with an award.
The Midland in Elworth has won the title South Cheshire CAMRA Winter pub of the year 2024/25 for its warm and cosy inviting atmosphere.
And the team who saved the pub from closure after buying it in 2019 have heaped praise on their loyal customer base who visit the pub in for its friendly, homely atmosphere.
Barry McCreadie, Glynne Rowlinson and Doug Stevens bought the pub six years ago and since then have built up a loyal following with a cosy atmosphere and occasional music and regular quiz nights.

Barry, the licensee, said: "We all used to drink in here and then came up with a plan to buy it. We didn't want to see it shut so we bought it between us.
"There have been a few bumps and swings along the way but we're delighted with what we've done and it's very rewarding. We get lots of compliments from our customers.
"It really is a great place to have a drink and relax. We've made a few improvements but bascially we've kept it as a nice loal pub which welcomes everyone and where you feel comfortable.
"Anyone can come in here for a drink. We pride ourselves on a warm, welcoming friendly atmosphere."

The pub holds regular quizzes donating over £2,100 to local charities.
Derek Davey, chair of CAMRA's South Cheshire branch said: "We were looking for a cosy pub which supports the community and this fits the bill.
"It serves nice beer and has a strong early evening crowd. It has nice touches such as open fires and although it's out of town it's near the station and has good transport links."
The Midland Inn will be presented with their CAMRA award on January 27th.
Congratulations to The Midlands Inn and the team who run this warm, friendly pub!
