Messages of condolence have poured in from across the country following the death of Sandbach Rugby Club under-8s player, Patryk Milner last week.

Patryk, aged 7, was a well-known face at the club, along with his sister Chrissy, and has been a part of the club from a very young age. Their parents Andy Milner and Aggie Bednarczyk have been active members for many years.

In a statement, the club said: "Patryk suffered a short and sudden illness whilst at school and lost his fight for life yesterday (1 October). Many people - teachers, first-responders, air ambulance staff, doctors and nurses - did all that was humanly possible to help but, ultimately, their efforts were in vain."

The club added: "A dark cloud will hang over both the club and school for a very long time."

Patryk attended Offley Primary School, which is based close to the club. In a social media post, the school said: "Our school community are devastated. Our hearts are broken."

Expressions of condolences have poured in from across the local community and the wider rugby world upon the news of Patryk's death.

A tweet from the England rugby union team said: "The thoughts of everyone at the RFU and the whole rugby family are with @sandbachrufc following the death of Patryk Milner. Patryk played in the under 8's at Sandbach and loved being at the club with mum Aggie and dad Andy. Our thoughts with the family at this sad time."

Locally, Sandbach United Football Club tweeted: "Deepest condolences from all at Sandbach United Football Club. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Patryk at this difficult time."

Atherstone RFC, based in the Midlands, sent their "deepest condolences" to Patryk's family and his wider club family.

Sheffield based club, Hallamshire RUFC, wrote: "All our love, thoughts and prayers go to Patryk's family and the whole of Sandbach rugby club. Unimaginable."

Neighbouring Crewe and Nantwich RUFC paid their respects to Patryk with a minute of applause at a match over the weekend.

Responding to the applause and other messages, the Sandbach RUFC wrote on Facebook: "We all hugely appreciate this kind gesture and all of the other messages of support from across the rugby family this weekend at this difficult moment for his family, friends and club mates."

A floral tribute has also grown over the weekend at the club with members and the wider Sandbach community paying their respects.
