Cheshire East Council has confirmed Crewe town centre's temporary bus station will open in the new year - with the new bus interchange and car park not far behind.

Phase one of the Royal Arcade scheme will see a new bus interchange and multi-storey car park in Crewe town centre.

A planning bid permitting the construction of this phase was secured in September 2021.

The temporary bus station will be finished and in use early in the new year (Jan Wright).

Demolition work finally began on the site this May. The former bus shelters have now been ripped down and cleared.

A temporary bus station is currently being constructed - allowing the demolition of the current bus station.

Today (November 1), Chair of Cheshire East Council's economy and growth committee, Cllr Nick Mannion, gave an update to Nub News.

The Macclesfield councillor said: "Our development partner's website and the council's website were recently updated to reflect the timeline for the development of the first phase of the Royal Arcade scheme.

"This is well underway and includes the construction of a new bus station and multi-storey car park.

Chair of Cheshire East Council's economy and growth committee, Cllr Nick Mannion, gave an update to Nub News (Cheshire East Council).

"Information boards displaying further details about these works are also on display at the existing bus station.

"We are expecting that the temporary bus stands will be finished and in use early in the new year, and the new bus station and car park are expected to be open at the end of 2023."

Cheshire East Council recently took down the Royal Arcade phase two project from its website.

This scheme relates to the delivery of a commercial and leisure development within Crewe Town Centre.

Cllr Mannion added: "We are continuing to work proactively with our development partner on the second phase of the Royal Arcade scheme.
