While thousands of us were glued to our TVs watching the Christmas Special of Death in Paradise, there was one Sandbach woman watching it even closer.

Director, Ruth Carney, who lives in Sandbach Heath, was the name behind the Christmas Special.

She and her family watched the sun-drenched crime drama and for Ruth it was a case of seeing the filming she did earlier in the year on national TV.

"I was very pleased with it," said Ruth who watched it with her husband and mum. "I thought the guest cast did a great job.

"It was wonderful to work with the legend that is Les Dennis."

Ruth spent several weeks in Guadeloupe in the Caribbean where the crime drama is set but now her attentions are closer to home.

Ruth grew up in Talke Pits girl and has directed a host of productions from Casualty to Father Brown and Emmerdale.

The talented director, who did an MA in Theatre Directing in Russia and Middlesex after her degree at the University of Sheffield, is back working in the UK.

Ruth is currently directing Brassic, the comedy drama about Vinnie and Dylan, who have grown up together and are inseparable.

She cannot give any details about the script or what is happening but she has shared various snaps from the filming on her Twitter account.

One tweet shows Ruth and the crew filming outside in -5c temperatures another shows night filming while one shows Ruth filming with actor Steve Evets.
