A former semi-professional footballer who was inspired to start playing the game by the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City has launched soccer sessions for children to help them follow in his footsteps.
Lewis Barker, who has a degree a Sports Coaching and a master's degree in Sports Development and Management, is offering children the chance to learn footballing skills.
The 26-year-old wants youngsters in Sandbach to have every opportunity to play football and develop their skills in a relaxed and comfortable environment.

Lewis, who lives in Wheelock, recently set up small groups session timetable at Sandbach Cricket Club which run during term time, Monday to Friday from 4.10 pm until 8 pm.
"I know how important it is for children to have a good coach and feel comfortable and relaxed when they are learning to play a sport," said Lewis.

"My motto is 'effort, attitude and desire' and that's what I pass on to children coming to my sessions. It's about not accepting defeat and working as a team."
And Lewis should know. As a youngster, he joined Manchester City's academy, later having trials with Port Vale and playing in Sandbach United's first team. Due to his work commitments, he plays in Sandbach United's reserves. .

While at university, he did placements in schools and then went on to join the Sport Coaching Group before branching out on to his own.
Lewis, known as 'Coach Barks' has been playing football since he was six years old and says it was his coach from his youth who inspired him to follow the footballing career path.
"I'm a passionate and experienced UEFA-qualified football coach, committed to developing players of all abilities through high-quality, tailored technical training.

"I've developed a strong ability to connect with young players, understand their needs, and deliver sessions that are not only effective but enjoyable.
"My coaching is grounded in academic knowledge as well as real-world experience. I bring first-hand playing experience to every session.
"My playing journey gives me a deep understanding of what young players go through as they progress in the game — from grassroots to elite levels."
Lewis says the sessions not only teach youngsters sporting skills but also social skills which help with communication and working in a team.
Further information about the sessions is available by emailing Lewis at: [email protected]
