The new owners of Malkins Bank Golf Club have been unveiled, alongside impressive plans for the popular club.

Four people have taken over the reins of the hidden Sandbach gem and they plan to well and truly put it on the golfing map.

Preliminary building work, which should be complete by March, is underway at the Betchton Road golf course on the outskirts of Sandbach.

The golf course will remain open while work is going on and golfers will still be able to play - but the amenities are getting a massive makeover.

The club opened in 1976 and was designed by world-famous Hawtree Golf Course Architects and Construction.

The golf course has undulating features bordering on to the Trent & Mersey Canal with a small river flowing through the golf course

The current six 'pods' providing accommodation are also part of the renovations alongside the clubhouse.

Francesca Bell, one of the four new owners, has unveiled exciting plans for the clubhouse and facilities.

"Apart from upgrading the club house and completely renovating it we will also have an attached marquee," said Francesca.

"We want to make this a top wedding and social venue for people to come to and enjoy the view and facilities.

"We plan also to have an outside wedding venue for couples who want to tie the knot outside."

"It will be amazing when we've finished. We are totally revamping the facilities," added Francesca, who is a golfer herself.

The other three owners are Martin Kerrison, Wayne McEvoy and a fourth person.

Francesca is no stranger to the licensing trade. She took over as landlady of Sandbach's The Lower Chequer pub two years ago in March.

"I will be working at both and going between the two," she said. "I've done a lot at The Lower Chequer since taking over and I want to make this equally as successful.

"I'm so excited about the new venture and looking forward to seeing it all happen. We have such great plans to make it a massive success.

"It has so much potential and we plan to tap into that and really pub Malkins Bank Golf Club on the map."
