A spokesperson from Cheshire Police said: "Officers attended and found that a car had rolled into the Trent and Mersey canal.

"The incident is not suspicious and there are no reports of any injuries."

Police have not confirmed how the incident happened but one eyewitness said: "We think that they were parked but then reversed off the side, not 100 per cent sure though."

While one remarked: "How did they even manage that?" and another said: "It must have been scary for them."
