A famous pie business which opened a shop in Sandbach has revealed why it decided to close.

The Cheshire Pie Company, based in Bold Street, opened a coffee shop and cafe selling its famous pies round the corner in Congleton Road.

But now the company, which sells pies all over the county and at various events up and down the country, has closed its Sandbach shop but is keeping its farm shop in Nantwich open.

Director, Kate Tomkinson, said the closure was "directly related to the parking charges being introduced into Sandbach town centre".

Kate said: "Closure of the shop was directly related to the parking charges being introduced into Sandbach town centre, the footfall decreased dramatically and impacted hugely on the amount of people visiting, more than halving some weeks takings.

"This along with the general lack of confidence in people's spending power brought about by the new government increases in gas, electric, council tax and business rates as well as their policies which are making employing people more difficult and expensive, made the high street location unviable for us as a business.

"It's a great pity as some amazing people worked in the shop and we had very positive feedback from all our customers who we would like to thank.

"We continue to operate on all our markets, outdoor events and shows as well as having a permanent farm shop at Dagfields Craft & Antiques Centre, Nantwich."
