Firefighters had a call with a difference over the Bank Holiday weekend.

They were called to rescue a hedgehog on Saturday (May 4th) after it got trapped down a drain in Wheelock.

One fire engine from Sandbach went to Hardings Wood Avenue at 7.42 pm.

A Cheshire Fire & Rescue Services spokesperson said: "The crew were able to access the drain and despite a somewhat prickly reception, firefighters freed the hedgehog before it was transferred to a nearby vet for checks and recuperation overnight."
