Firefighters rescue cow stuck in the mud on the river near Sandbach

Five fire engines and a boat rescued a cow which had fallen into the river near Sandbach.

Firefighters from Lymm were called to the incident on the River Weaver at 7.18 pm last night (Thursday).

A Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: "The cow was stuck in the mud on the river close to the water.

"Crews used specialist equipment to help the cow back to safety, the cow was then escorted back to a secure paddock."
