Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service tackled a fire located within Crewe's hospital - remaining at the site for 40 minutes.

The incident inside Leighton Hopital, Middlewich Road, happened at 6:19am on Monday (December 19).

One fire engine from Crewe arrived at the scene - assessing the situation.

Crewe firefighters were at the scene for 40 minutes to ensure the area was safe (Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service).

A small fire was discovered in a plant room within the hospital.

A dry powder extinguisher was used to put out the blaze.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Firefighters used a dry powder extinguisher to tackle a small fire in a plant room.

"They isolated electrics and damped down the area before checking the area with a thermal imaging camera.

A small fire was discovered in a plant room within Leighton Hospital (Google).

"A high pressure fan was used to clear smoke and the crew remained for a further 20 minutes to continue monitoring the temperature.

"They were at the scene for 40 minutes."
