Sandbach's hugely successful 2022 Walking Festival has come to a close - but organisers are already planning next year's festival.

Cllr Price Jones, who stepped down in May as Sandbach Mayor, led the festival's final walk yesterday afternoon(Sunday) – Towns and Greens.

Walkers soaked up the history of the town from the historic buildings of Sandbach Town Hall to the Old Hall, St Mary's Church and Dingle Wood.

And the event ended with drinks and a BBQ at the town's oldest pub – The Lower Chequer - where walkers celebrated the festival's success and swapped stories.

This year's nine-day festival started on Saturday, June 25th and featured 42 walks, covering a range of areas and interests.

Walking Festival organisers said on Social Media: "The feedback has been amazing.

"A huge thanks to all the volunteers who have worked hard in organising the 42 walks and leading them.

"The weather has certainly been on our side this year.

"We hope everyone who joined us, enjoyed the walks and found something of interest. Thanks also to the local businesses for their support.

"We are already thinking about SWF2023 and if you have any ideas for walks or you would like to lead a walk or two, please let us know. You can email [email protected]."

And the dozens of people who took part in the walks have heaped praise on festival organisers.

One of the walkers on yesterday's grand finale said: "Fourteen of us and four dogs turned up for this lovely walk in the late afternoon sunshine!

"Thank you to the organisers and leaders for a wonderful festival!"
