Cllr Sandrene Wright has been elected as the new councillor for the Ettiley Heath & Wheelock ward in yesterday's (June 27) by-election.

Candidates were vying for the seat on Sandbach Town Council's Ettiley Heath and Wheelock ward following the resignation of Councillor Martin Deakin, who is moving out of the area as revealed here.

The results were as follows:

  • Callum Charmers (Lib Dem) - 140
  • Richard Hovey (Independent) - 218
  • Philip Pinto (Reform) - 159
  • Sandrene Wright (Labour) 361

Turnout was 20.18%.

Speaking of her election, Cllr Wright said: "Thank you so much to everyone who voted for me! Now the work starts."

Sandbach Town Council is made up of 20 councillors across four wards - Town Ward, Sandbach Heath and East Ward, Ettiley Heath and Wheelock Ward and Elworth Ward.

Councillors are elected by public vote every four years. Any vacancies occurring outside of the four yearly election may be filled by co-option or a by-election.
