Locals invited to master a craft dating back 5000 years on free course at Hassall Green Nature Reserve
By Livia Gregor 18th Jun 2026
Next week, locals will have the chance to take part in an immersive dry stone steps course at Hassall Green Nature Reserve.
The ancient craft dates back to the Neolithic period with one of the earliest examples being found in the village of Skara Brae in the Orkney Islands.
Commencing on Monday 22 June and with a second session on Thursday 25 June, the course is completely free with participants learning the fundamentals of traditional dry stone step-making and a range of stone working methods.
Experienced instructors will help attendees learn how to use hand tools and pick the right stones to build strong steps.
It is an amazing opportunity to meet new people and be part of preserving an historic skill.
To register, log in or make an account on the Green Angels portal: Log in – Green Angels
