A large section of a major Crewe road will remain closed until April - with both Cheshire East Council and Scottish Power working at the site.

Flag Lane, from the bridge towards Crewe town centre, closed in both directions on Wednesday 18 January.

Scottish Power is responsible for the initial road closure - allowing utility repair and maintenance works to take place until Wednesday 15 February

A link road and new junction at the end of Harrison Drive will be built - aiming to ease congestion and improve travel options into Crewe town centre.

The new link road and junction will not have traffic lights and no new street lighting will be added.

Upgrades to local footpaths, added cycle lanes and improved junction visibility will be included.

On Monday (January 23), Scottish Power confirmed the road closure situation to Nub News.

A spokesperson said: "Cheshire East Council had a road closure in place on Flag Lane for their works prior to the ScottishPower works commencing.

"The ScottishPower works are scheduled to be completed by the end of 14 February.

"However, the Cheshire East Council works will extend beyond this - with the road closure intended to be in place until April."

Currently, motorists can travel along Flag Lane from Alton Street and are diverted right at the traffic lights junction with Wistaston Road towards Crewe town centre.

Flag Lane is open past Wistaston Road traffic lights junction for motorists wanting to use Lewis Street, Bridle Road and Flag Lane car park (Ryan Parker).

The road closure begins from the zebra crossing over Flag Lane bridge.

Flag Lane is currently dug up past this point for Scottish Power maintenance works.

Motorists can access Castle Street from the other side of Flag Lane - via Hightown, Richard Moon Street, St Mary's Street and Victoria Street.

Flag Lane is also closed off from Delamere Street before the junction.
