Marathon effort: Sandbach runner follows in the footsteps of Paula Radcliffe as he prepares for special race

Sandbach man, Steve Nixon, is set to get not one but two medals when he completes the London marathon today (Sunday).
For Steve, who spent 20 years in the army, is set to receive the the Six Star Medal along with the London Marathon medal when he completes the London marathon taking place today Sunday (April 27th).
The avid runner is taking part in the Abbott World Marathon Majors. Runners must complete six specified marathons - something four-time British Olympian/world record holder Paula Radcliffe secured recently after completing the Boston Marathon.

Paula achieved her 'sixth star medal', six days before Steve will hopefully achieve his on Sunday at the London Marathon.
And Steve, who lives in Wheelock, isn't just doing it to achieve his Abbotts World Marathon Majors medal - he's also doing it to raise money for the Royal British Legion.
Steve, who lives in Wheelock said: "After New York, Chicago, Berlin, Boston and Tokyo, this will be number six. It's been a long road (literally!), and I'm proud to be running this one in my 60th year.
"I'm also running to raise money for the Royal British Legion – a cause close to my heart after 20 years in the Army. If you can spare a few quid to support our veterans, I'd be hugely grateful. Every step I take on Sunday will be for them."

Steve took part in a sponsored sleep-out in Sandbach town centre on last month (March) to support the Royal British Legion.

He added: "I served 20 years in the Army and this cause is deeply personal to me," said Steve. "Too many veterans struggle with homelessness after their service, and I'm doing this to highlight their situation and raise funds to support them.
"This sleep-out was part of my fundraising for the London Marathon on April 27th, 2025, which will be my sixth and final world major marathon.
"Fewer than 20,000 runners worldwide have completed all six of these prestigious marathons, and I'm honoured to be joining that group while raising money for a cause so close to my heart," he added.
