Mayors from across three towns gathered together to celebrate the success of a group to help stroke survivors in Sandbach, Alsager and Crewe.

Founder, Liz Bedson, set up the first group Stroke Survivors Speech & Language Support Group in Crewe in 2018.

Five years later, the organisation which was highly commended in the recent South Cheshire Chamber Business Awards, is flourishing and helping dozens of survivors.

And yesterday (Monday) they thanked supporters, sponsors and volunteers for their hard work with a Christmas lunch at Sandbach Rugby Club.

Sandbach Mayor, Councillor Laura Crane was joined by Alsager Mayor, Councillor Jane Hearne and Crewe Mayor, Dennis Straine-Francis, at the event in Bradwall Road, Sandbach.

Arthur Harding, who runs the Sandbach group, said: "We truly appreciate all your support over the past year, and this is our way of saying thank you from all of us at the Stroke Survivors Speech and Language Groups.

"Each of our groups at Crewe, Alsager and Sandbach are flourishing and it's fantastic that you have helped to empower our stroke survivors to recover, reclaim and rebuild their lives."

Founder, Liz Bedson, personally understood the experience and challenges of having a loved one survive a stroke which led her to establish the Crewe group.

Due to need and demand, opened a second group in 2022 in Alsager as we revealed here

And in September, a third group in Sandbach which meets on Wednesday mornings at Sandbach Rugby Club in Bradwall Road was launched as we revealed here

Details about the group can be found on their Facebook page here and their website here
