Cheshire Police has welcomed its newest four-legged crime fighter.

Sprocker Spaniel Peppa is set to begin her training to join the force's diverse group of police dogs.

The canine crew assist their two-legged companions in numerous ways, from sniffing out criminals and detecting concealed drugs and weapons to locating tiny electronic equipment being hidden out of sight.

The 12-week-old puppy has recently been taken on by Cheshire Constabulary after she was kindly donated by Lisa Haughton from the Protecting Vulnerable People Unit.

Lisa Haughton, who donated Peppa to the force, said: "Peppa is a Sprocker spaniel bred from my own home-bred working Sprocker spaniel, Ruby.

"Her father is Merlin, a working cocker spaniel from the renowned 'Spanbella Gundogs' based in Whitchurch, Shropshire.

"She is very special to us."

Following her arrival, Peppa is now living with her new handler from the force's dog section full time ahead of her rigorous police dog training that will commence in the coming weeks.

Whilst her role within the force's dog unit is yet to be decided, the team will be documenting Peppa's training as she progresses, with more 'pup-dates' coming soon.
