Not many pub owners can say they have stayed in the same place since they started but one near Sandbach has done just that.

Ian Evans runs The Bull's Head at Smallwood with his wife Sharon and this year, he's clocking up a quarter of a century at the award-winning pub.

Last year the pub in Newcastle Road was named 'Pub of the Year' 2024 by the Macclesfield and East Cheshire CAMRA and the year before, it won `Pub of the Season Autumn 2023' by the Macclesfield and East Cheshire CAMRA.

Ian originally joined the pub as a chef but then he and Sharon ended up buying the pub and the rest, as they say, is history.

"I've always worked in the hospitality trade. Our food is locally sourced and homemade and we still have our steak pie on the menu which I developed when I first came here," said Ian.

"I don't think there's any big secret to my success - I guess it's getting up every morning with a smile on your face.

"Every day is a new day and every day is different. I like to treat people how I would want to be treated myself."

Ian runs the pub with his wife Sharon and one of their sons, Jake and his wife Millie - so it's something of a family affair at The Bull's Head.

"We treat people with respect and provide a friendly place where they want to come and relax and enjoy themselves," said Ian.

"We love what we do and enjoy running the pub, providing the very best we can."

And it would seem the customers are just as happy at The Bull's Head as the staff are.

Regular, Damien Hesketh, a director at nearby Diamond Electronics, said: "It probably serves the best beer in Cheshire.

"It also does excellent food. It's good, wholesome food."

Ian and Sharon are planning to throw a family fun day party to celebrate with customers in July or August.
