Sandbach residents, Tom Nixon and Matt Lafferty, have started a new chapter in their lives – as the new owners of The Cobbles bar.

And the duo are right on target with their business venture, after a shared love of football set them on track to a bright future.

The two soon became firm friends, drinking at The Cobbles bar, a Grade II listed building, which then led them to working the odd shift there.

"We both love the town and its variety of bars and restaurants. It's got such a lovely feel," said Tom.

"I grew up around pubs with my family running one in Woodford, Stockport. I've always wanted to run one myself."

Matt, a graphic designer, designed material for The Cobbles' previous owner before he and Tom took over the bar.

His artwork includes a 'Rock & Rye' list of craft beer and whiskies served at The Cobbles and a cocktail menu.

The duo have also teamed up with nearby Italian restaurant, Casa Mia, to offer a 10 per cent discount at the restaurant for customers spending £15 or more at The Cobbles.

"It was a natural transition for us to take on the bar," said Matt. "We both love the bar and had visited it many times."

Last weekend, Tom and Matt held a launch party, with music for customers and now they are planning to hold more events.

"We love the bar. It's such a lovely location," said Tom. "There's nothing better than sitting outside at the front when the sun's out.

"We're not planning to make any drastic changes, just tweaking a few things."

The Cobbles is open Thursday – Sunday. Further details about opening hours on their Facebook page here

Sandbach Nub News wishes Tom and Matt every success with their new venture.
