Members of a group set up to fight racism, sexism and other related topics have had praise heaped on them by fellow campaigners.

The Sandbach Youth Activism Group previously launched a petition calling on the government to ban the sale of uniforms in sex shops as we revealed here

They have also worked on other projects and have now been presented with certificates for their work by campaigner, feminist activist and author, Laura Coryton MBE and Dr Hannah Yelin from Oxford Brookes University.

The group is run by former Sandbach High School and Sixth Form Teacher, Sarah Maile, who said: "We have been carrying on with our campaign to tackle the hyper sexualisation of girls' school uniform, looking into the growing incel culture and asking why they are not classed as terrorists.

"We have had visits from Savera UK to chat to us about female genital mutilation and so-called honour based violence, we worked with Cheshire East Council for white ribbon day and produced a powerful video for their conference.

"Throughout the year, we have been supported by the wonderful Laura Coryton MBE and her charity Sex Ed Matters, and the work she has been doing with Oxford Brookes University to create a course to support young people make change."

Laura Coryton MBE is a campaigner, feminist activist and author and founder of a campaign to end the tax on menstrual products, 'Stop Taxing Periods' and make these products exempt from tax.

The Sandbach Youth Activism Group meets every Monday during term time between 3.30 pm and 4.30 pm at St Mary's Church Hall in Market Square.

Open to anyone aged 13-18, they must complete a parent permission slip to attend.
