Motorists using a main road in Sandbach have been urged to allow extra time until emergency work is complete.

Some residents were without power and a four-way traffic light system has been in place in Middlewich Road near Aldi while emergency electricity work was carried out.

Elworth district councillor, Nicola Cook said on Social Media yesterday: "The work is connected to emergency electricity works as residents have now been without electricity for over 15 hours.

"The work will continue overnight, and the traffic lights are expected to be there until Friday at the earliest.

"Sadly also there were some additional problems today, as the traffic lights are motion sensored and therefore because drivers were jumping the lights at some points today, all the lights were on red.

"Sadly the contractors also said they had experienced the worse verbal abuse that they had ever known.

"I really understand that roadworks are frustrating, and we have had to live with so many over the last 12 months, but we also have residents who are going to be without electricity for over 24 hours, so this work has to be done.

"Please do give yourself extra time tomorrow, and preferably avoid the area, and please do what you can to spread the word as to why this work is being undertaken. Thanks all as ever."
