Firefighters were called to a chimney fire at a house in Sandbach last night (December 29th) after nesting materials had fallen inside the chimney.

One fire engine from Crewe was called to the house in Middlewich Road at 5.32 pm.

A spokesperson from Cheshire Fire Rescue Service said: "Firefighters used a ladder and height safety equipment to check the chimney from above.

"The firefighters were able to extinguish the fire by gaining access from the bottom of the chimney using chimney rods.

"A thermal imaging camera was used to check for hot spots through the chimney breast and ensure the fire was out."
