A new Asda Express has launched at the site of the former Co-op with petrol station at Saxon Cross near junction 17 of the M6.
Asda Express, Congleton Road, officially opens today Wednesday, January 10th - just hours after Co-op Saxon Cross closed.
In 2022, Asda acquired 132 sites from the Co-op a £438m deal as part of its long-term strategy to become the UK's second largest supermarket.
VP of Convenience at Asda, Andy Perry, told Nub News: "We're incredibly excited to be bringing more of our Asda value and quality to Cheshire with the conversion of these Co-op sites.
"The roll out marks an incredibly exciting moment for our business and accelerates our presence in the fast-growing convenience market."
Further down the road, at nearby Holmes Chapel, the Co-op and petrol station in Middlewich Road will also become an Asda Express next week and is due to open on Friday, January 19th.
The converted Asda Express sites will stock up to 3,000 branded and own-label products to suit a broad range of customer needs including 'top up' shops for essential items such as milk and bread, grabbing lunch on the go or cooking dinner from scratch.
Asda's acceleration into the convenience market is part of the retailer's long-term strategy to become the UK's second largest supermarket, by moving into the fast-growing convenience market worth £40bn per year.
