A new Crewe town centre LED advertisement billboard has been amended by engineers - following complaints made about its brightness by local residents.

The new digital advertisement screen was constructed by providers Vision Digital last month (August) - on the corner of Earle Street and Vernon Way.

Yesterday (September 13), Crewe resident, Nicki Dee, created an opinion piece for Nub News - expressing her frustration towards the electronic billboard.

The 38-year-old said: "How the billboard has passed health and safety as it stands I'll never know.

"The brightness is dangerous. It's going to cause an accident. Especially with the darker nights drawing in.

"If Cheshire East do not rectify the issue they will soon have a death on their hands due to a driver knocking down a pedestrian after the driver being blinded by the brightness from the billboard."

Today (September 14), Vision Digital confirmed to Nub News it had immediately sent engineers to the Crewe town centre site.

Director of Vision Digital, Steve Staley, confimred the brightness issue had now been resolved (Vision Digital).

Director of Vision Digital, Steve Staley, said: "Like all new technology we can encounter teething problems from time to time.

"As soon as we were made aware of this issue we instructed our engineers to visit the site to investigate within 48 hours of it being reported.

"All our screens are fitted with light sensors that automatically dim the screen in the hours of darkness.

"I can confirm the problem on this occasion was actually the street light directly next to the screen interfering with the light sensor and therefore it thought it was daylight all of the time."

A Nub News reader raised the new advertisement billboard issue last week - September 7 (Twitter).

A similar LED advertisement billboard was approved by Cheshire East Council for Hungerford Road bridge last week (September 6).

More electronic billboards are planned for Crewe over the coming months.

'We have since moved the sensor so this should not be an issue again.

Mr Saley added: "We are pleased that the our new screen is accepted by the public now that this issue has been resolved.

"This was a significant investment to enhance the Town Centre which was well received by the Council.
