Plans have been submitted to build 74 affordable homes on a Middlewich site recently granted permission for 52 residential properties.

Cheshire East gave the go-ahead for 52 homes on land to the east and west of Croxton Lane in April of this year.

That scheme, submitted by Brenig Construction Ltd, Anwyl Land Ltd & Mrs D M Frances-Hayhurst Foundation, also included new vehicular access from Croxton Lane, alterations to the existing lay-by on Croxton Lane and new open space areas with children's play area.

This latest application, from Breck Homes, is for 74 affordable homes with two accesses from Croxton Lane, highway and footway improvements, open space and sustainable drainage pond.

The housing element is made up of four four-bedroom houses, 20 three-bed houses, 26 two-bed houses and 24 one-bed maisonette apartments. All are affordable homes.

A transport statement submitted on behalf of the applicant by Eddisons states: "The site is located approximately 1.1km to the north west of Middlewich town centre, on land located off Croxton Lane and was previously recommended for full planning approval for 52 units."

With regard to parking, it states: "It is proposed to provide a total of 128 spaces, equating to an 89 per cent parking provision, however the site is considered to be highly accessible by active and public transport modes and located within walking distance of a number of key facilities, including health, education and retail facilities in Middlewich."

It continues: "The site layout has been designed to encourage low traffic speeds which will enable pedestrian and cyclists to safely use the internal site roads."

The application, number 23/4559C, can be viewed on the planning portal on Cheshire East Council's website.

The last date for submitting comments is January 25 and, according to the council's website, the application is due to be considered by the southern planning committee on February 7.
