A Sandbach historian who has spent almost all of his life in the town is sharing his historical documents at a special exhibition this weekend.
Stewart Green is passionate about Sandbach's history and on Saturday (October 19) a fraction of his massive collection – most of it rare documents - will go on show.
During his life, Stewart has amassed a huge collection of valuable historical information about the town which has been his home since he was aged six.
The documents are stored at his home in Sandbach Heath which is crammed full with momentos of the town.
Now the 62-year-old is about to share some of his precious documents, including manuscripts, photographs and postcards, at a 'Cheshire Local History Day'.
And he's calling on townsfolk to take part in reliving Sandbach's history by bringing along memories and items from World War II and VE Day celebrations for a special event next year.
The event coincides with the countywide Cheshire History Day which is celebrated on Saturday too and Stewart is hoping the fascinating event will become a regular fixture on the calendar.
"We have so much wonderful history in the town to celebrate," said Stewart who can often be seen documenting present day events taking place in the town.
"It's important that we keep this information for future generations to see. There will be 10 tables at my exhibition all covering different subjects.
There will be sections on the fire brigade, amateur dramatic groups, Foden's Band, Foden motor works, ERF, the Royal British Legion, Sandbach, WWI Sandbach, music festivals and Sandbach Concert Series to name a few.
Also on display will be old receipts and postcards from days gone by in Sandbach along with other memorabilia.
One of the items will be documentation about former blacksmith, fireman and bell ringer, John Cooke, who died in 1913.
The Cheshire Local History Day about Sandbach takes place in the board room at Sandbach Town hall from 9 am until 4pm. Entry is free.
But besides this event, Stewart and the Royal British Legion, Sandbach have launched an appeal for memories and items from World War II and VE Day celebrations.
"Bring along or tell us what you have to include in a VE Day celebration on May 8th 2025," he said.
