Sandbach Pride's first big event takes place on September 3rd.

Pupils who launched a petition calling on the government to ban the sale of school uniforms in sex shops have won praise from the great granddaughter of suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst.

And the pupils, members of the school's feminism group, have been invited to take part in Sandbach Pride's first ever event next month in Sandbach Park.

Emmeline Pankhurst

Lucy Oliver, creative director at Sandbach Pride met Helen Pankhurst, the great granddaughter of Emmeline Pankhurst, at an event in Cheshire recently.

Helen said: "I heard about the petition and think it's absolutely brilliant.

"Well done for what these students are doing – that's the way that change happens.

"I just want to say I'm a massive fan, well done for what you are doing, thank you and good luck. I'll be following you."

Sandbach Nub News recently featured the news that the petition calling on the government to ban the sale of school uniforms in sex shops and from being worn in pornographic videos has passed 10,000 signatures.

The online petition was launched by members of the Feminism Group at Sandbach High School and Sixth Form College.

Sandbach Pride were so impressed by the pupils' petition that they invited the pupils to be showcased on stage and be 'Rainbow Queens' at the event on September 3rd.

Lucy Oliver from Sandbach Pride said: "They were thrilled at the invite and some of the girls will have a dual role at the event as they will be performing with SDA too.

"The positive action these girls have taken is amazing and I wanted to celebrate their efforts with the people of Sandbach, recognising them as influential changemakers and amazing role-models.

"Join in with a chance to publicly celebrate the work of the girls at Sandbach Pride on Saturday September 3rd at Sandbach Park between 11am-5pm."
