Poignant poem amongst church's display for Remembrance Sunday

By Deborah Bowyer 13th Nov 2021

Remembrance displays are all over Sandbach and Unity Methodist Church in Wheelock has a poignant message.

The steps of the Crewe Road church are decorated in poppies and a tree to the left has poppy decorated CDs hanging from the tree.

Amongst their display is this moving poem: "We look into the solder's eyes but he's no longer there.

"He replays battles in his head, behind his one mile stare. We remember all the fallen but must also say a prayer. For those remaining solders living life behind the stare."

Morning Worship tomorrow is at 9.30am at New Horizons, Crewe Road, Wheelock and then the congregation will join the Remembrance events in Wheelock (Cenotaph at Christ Church) at 10.45am

Remembrance services are also taking place in Sandbach (Cenotaph on the Cobbles)

And Elworth (Cenotaph by Elworth Park) has a service while others will be watching the national ceremony in Whitehall on TV.
