Mystery surrounding the police helicopter flying low over Sandbach on Tuesday night has been solved.

Cheshire Police say they have released two men under investigation following reports of an assault in Linley Road, Alsager.

The police helicopter was called in to help with a search of the area which included nearby Sandbach.

A statement released by Cheshire Police today says: "At around 8.40pm on Tuesday (May 3) May, police were called to reports of an assault.

"Officers, supported by the police helicopter, attended the scene and conducted a thorough search of the area but were unable to locate anyone with any injuries."

Police say two men, a 25-year-old from Kidsgrove and a 34-year-old from Stoke-on-Trent were arrested on suspicion of assault and have since been released under investigation.

They are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
