Officers from Cheshire police's Roads and Crime Unit arrested a man wanted by another force yesterday.

At 12.40pm on Wednesday police were alerted to a car being driven along the M6 by a man wanted by West Midlands Police on suspicion of a serious assault and criminal damage.

Officers from Cheshire police's Roads and Crime Unit (RCU) followed the car and stopped it at junction 16 southbound.

The driver, a 26-year-old man from Smethwick, was arrested on suspicion of driving without insurance and driving while under the influence of drugs. He was also transferred to West Midlands Police for their investigation into a serious assault and criminal damage.

His car was seized at the scene for no insurance.

Insp. Anton Sullivan from the RCU said: "This is just another great example of officers from RCU denying those involved in criminality across the country from using Cheshire's roads."
