Voters in Sandbach are going to the polls today in two town council by-elections.

And it looks like they have the weather on their side as they turn out to cast their votes.

Clear blue skies greeted voters as they turned out to cast their votes this morning.

Candidates are vying for one seat on Sandbach Town Council's Town ward and one seat on the Ettiley Heath and Wheelock ward following the resignation of both councillors.

Polling stations around the town opened at 7am today (Thursday) and voters have until 10pm to cast their votes tonight when polling stations close.

The Town Ward has four candidates standing – John Arnold (the Labour Party), Nicola Cook (Independent), Nigel Kay (Independent) and Ann Nevitt (the Conservative and Unionist Party).

In the Ettiley Heath and Wheelock ward, there are three candidates standing. Nick Adams (the Conservative and Unionist Party), Michelle Hough (Liberal Democrats) and Simon Richards (the Labour Party).

For the Town Ward, voters will be going to the Masonic Hall on the Commons or Sandbach Rugby Club in Bradwall Road.

Voters for the Ettiley Heath and Wheelock ward will either be going to Ettiley Heath Church Community Centre, Elton Road, the Unity Methodist Church Hall, Crewe Road, Wheelock or the Masonic Hall on the Commons.

Sandbach Town Council is made up of 20 councillors across four wards - Town Ward, Sandbach Heath and East Ward, Ettiley Heath and Wheelock Ward and Elworth Ward.

Councillors are elected by public vote every four years. Any vacancies occurring outside of the four yearly election may be filled by co-option or a by-election.
